timid / silent / wonders

the scholarly, the timid, the unnerved —
they walk among us, silent and alone,
as earthly wonders, those as yet preserved
sit brooding on the cape, as though a throne,
to view a realm of timelessness; intent
on watching as that last of it is spent

the grass is swaying, nervous, wavering;
i tacit wander out to where the light
keeps watch upon the splendor, favoring
the life of gently guiding toward the right
the wandering, the listless, and the lost:
that value’s worth more than it counts the cost
