Terminus

We went on one last trip, we did
We tried to work it out;
But gradually, we understood
That there – without a doubt –

We’d seen our last trip as a team.
Our marriage now in shreds,
We traveled back down silent roads
Each lost in our own heads

Now many years have gone, and I
Have moved beyond those days.
But sometimes I think back to when
I thought the sun’s bright rays

Would never yet be seen again
Because our days were through:
But then, the end, the terminus
Turned into something
New
