Out On The Balcony

I went out on the balcony
The fresh air to embrace;
To see the many wonders
All around us in this place

To hear the distant sea-sounds
And the people down below;
Instead, I heard two voices
From next door, a room or so

A woman’s voice: “You’re hopeless!
Like your father was, before.
I wish I’d never birthed you.
You can’t stay here anymore.”

A girl’s voice: “Mom, I’m sorry!
I just don’t know what to do…”
“You should have thought of that
Before you let that boy touch you.”

Their sliding door clicked closed,
They nevermore did I hear of;
Lord, please protect the children, all,
Who have no mother’s
Love
