When Superheroes Roamed the Land

When superheroes roamed the land,
The world – it was a safer place –
And I was safer, too, and free
From all female attention

Or maybe not – I couldn’t say.
For fiction filled my waking mind:
And though I was alone, it was
A self-imposed detention

The day came, though, I felt the shift –
And what I wanted most had changed:
The superheroes exiled, till
The day I called them back

But real friends, we do not outgrow.
I’ve learned this well, and truly know:
Imaginary worlds are real,
As real as anything
We feel
