Our hearts were full of sometimes fall,
Our lives were filled with often pain;
But we loved hard, above it all —
And if we could, we would again.
For I’ve seen you in winters past
With ice and snow hung ’round your heart;
And you’ve known me to cling, at last,
To that one, sole remaining part
Of the great carnival we shared.
I will not dwell within regret;
I’ll only say, I always cared,
I have done,
Do,
And will do,
Yet
I love this one.
Thank you. I felt like this came out closer to how I intended it to than most of the things I write.
🙂 My take on it is that no matter how impossible it ever is, a great love is a great love, and we can forgive one another always because it really was love (which means it IS love).
This was an unusually emotional piece for me.
