I’m Not A Hero

Politics unites our tears
But I am left aside
My grievances are private, and
My griefs
Are not those deemed worthy
Of mass notice

The world turns on
Its ugly axis
And people like me
And maybe you
Can join the herd
But it will never
Need us
Know us
Care about us

Politics
Is
Nothing
But
Hatred

Masquerading

And the show goes on
Televised
Videographed
And blogged

While the grieving widow
Stands lonely by the tombstone

One ounce of real caring
Is worth a world-weight
Of posturing
And sloganeering

But who am I, you say
Hiding behind my little pseudonym
Writing my eight line rhymes
While the world screams outside my door

Ah, but the world does not scream
People do
And it’s people that are forgotten

Love is the great uniter of persons
But
Hatred is the great uniter of movements

And I
Will not
Take part

I am no hero

I’m just another person
Who thinks
I either help people myself
Or
I’m not worth a damn in this world

Or any other
