It’s been a revelation
Writing these pieces
How often I have been in love —
Or thought I was —
How many friends
Have touched my life
I stand here tonight,
By this grill —
By happenstance, I am
The only one at home —
And I realize that
For years
I painted a portrait of myself
At variance
With the actual life
I’ve led
I’ve hardly been a loner
And I’ve experienced enough
For several lifetimes —
Much of it
Good
The steak’s almost ready
And so, I think
Am I
Perfect. 🙂
Thank you.
I love it when a post from your blog comes up in my reader, by the way. You write with a very distinct voice.
Thank you for the compliment. I also love reading your poetry and am happy I found your blog. I know you’ve posted recently that you plan to slow down on writing in the new year, but I do hope you won’t stop altogether! 🙂
I don’t think I could stop now. I just need to do a few other things.
Thanks again.
There is a saying that you can’t sing the blues without having lived them. I think the same applies to poetry. And you are a master, in my opinion. Keep writing!
I appreciate it. I can’t see stopping now.
An even though no one asked, the steak came out perfect.
That’s good, on both accounts. Shame on me for not asking! 🙁
Well-done…
Best comment I’ve ever gotten.
🙂
Only one steak? I probably would have had 3!

Good idea for next time…
LOL!
