Candle on the Counter

DSC_0264

Placed amid a tangle of objects
Apples and cinnamon, fragrant
There to be lit when darkness comes unexpectedly

Hurrying by one day
On the way to nowhere I needed to be
My elbow pushed the candle off the counter
And it shattered

So it is with Love

Beautiful and sweet-smelling amidst the ugliness of everyday life
There to light us in the darkness
And as we hurry to places we need not be
We treat it thoughtlessly
Violently

And once broken

Its gone
